The redesign for Wellington, New Zealand, intended to support the city’s friendly, exuberant environment while paying homage to its cultural heritage. The final concept of the logo was inspired by the Māori symbol of the pikorua double twist, which represents the joining of two peoples or cultures and is a fitting visual metaphor to represent Wellington's past and its progressive future. The final design integrated a stylized double-twist into a bold 'W' to create an iconic letterform that could reflect the conjoining cultures.
